Vol. 218 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Accounts Forms.

49.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if steps have been taken to use Irish manufactured stationery in future telephone accounts forms; if not, why; and if having regard to the need for Government Departments to show good example in the Buy Irish campaign, he will say why foreign stationery is being used at present.

I would refer the Deputy to the replies of my predecessor of 8th April, 1964 and 4th November, 1964.

If the Minister read those replies, I think he would find his predecessor undertook to investigate the possibility of using Irish stationery for Irish telephone accounts. Could the Minister now say what the outcome of the inquiries has been and when Irish paper will be used for the purpose of furnishing telephone accounts in respect of Irish telephones?

They are being printed in America.

Has the Minister no answer? Is everybody to buy Irish except the Fianna Fáil Government?

There are more firms manufacturing more Irish goods than the Deputy ever expected. The answer, if I remember rightly the reply given by my predecessor on the occasion referred to, was that the cards being used in the machines were part of the service that was to be provided when the machines were bought.

Why did you not make it a condition that Irish paper would be used in the furnishing of accounts?

If the House agrees, we shall continue with questions. I am calling Question No. 50.
