Vol. 218 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Age Limits for Scholarships.

40.

asked the Minister for Education how many local authorities have submitted requests to him that age limits for secondary and vocational school local authority scholarships be restored to the former limits.

Of the 31 local authorities awarding scholarships, a total of 17 have, over the past few years, made representations to me in regard to the revised age limits for the post-primary scholarships examination. While 15 local authorities made representations originally, only four have requested an alteration of age limits in respect of the 1966 examination. This would seem to suggest that the great majority of local authorities have come to realise the educational advantages attaching to the revised age limits.
