asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will make a statement on the progress of the discussion on the application by the American airlines for permission to fly into Dublin.

A full exchange of views has taken place in the discussions on the application by the United States aviation authorities for permission to fly into Dublin. A report for the Government is being prepared and it would not be possible to make a public statement prior to consideration of the matter by the Government.

In view of the fact that since this question was tabled, the negotiations have concluded and definite proposals have now been submitted to the Government, would the Minister give any indication as to what these proposals are?

There has been an agreed statement issued to the press on this matter. No doubt the Deputy has read it.

Surely it would be better if the Minister made the statement to Dáil Eireann rather than let the Members read it in the press?

When will a statement be issued by the Government arising from these negotiations?

As soon as the matter has been considered. I am not able to say when.

Does the Minister expect that it will be within a day, a week, a month, or 12 months?

I think it will be in the course of the next two or three weeks.

Can the Minister say if consideration has been given to granting this country any extended rights in the United States in view of the revision of the agreement?

Can we expect this announcement from the Minister for Health? I wonder will we be invited to the function?
