Vol. 218 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Mayo Houses.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government (a) what is the total number of unfit houses in County Mayo, (b) the number that can be repaired under the essential repairs grant, and (c) the number with (i) over £5 valuation and (ii) under £5 valuation.

The total number of unfit houses disclosed by the surveys of unfit housing carried out by the various housing authorities in County Mayo in 1961-62 was 5,045. Information is not available as to the number of these houses which would come within the scope of essential repairs grants. Only 4,748 cases were classified by valuation. In 2,704 of these cases the valuation was over £5 and in 2,044 cases was £5 or less than £5. The remaining cases were classified by reference to weekly income.
