Vol. 219 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coast Protection Projects.

22.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give the list of projects under the Coast Protection Act, 1963 submitted to him by Donegal County Council; the number of such projects sanctioned by his Department; and the amounts allocated to the council for their completion.

The Donegal County Council have submitted to the Commissioners of Public Works proposals for coast protection schemes at Rossnowlagh, Moville, Buncrana, Magheraroarty and Ardsmore/Ardsbeg. No scheme has yet been confirmed under the Act. A preliminary report on the Rossnowlagh case has been made to the county council and they have recently been asked for further information to enable the next stage in the procedure to be dealt with. The preliminary examination of the Moville proposal is nearly completed and it is hoped to send a report to the county council shortly.

23.

asked the Minister for Finance at what date his Department received an application from Cork County Council for a grant under the Coast Protection Act, 1963 for the protection of the front strand at Youghal; when he expects to sanction this grant; and what are the causes of delay in sanctioning it.

A proposal in compliance with the Coast Protection Act, 1963, for works at the front strand in Youghal was received from the Cork County Council on 21st October, 1964. Because of the number of proposals received and the shortage of engineering staff, there is necessarily some delay in the examination af these schemes which by their nature often require study over a period. The preliminary examination of the Youghal strand proposal is nearly completed and a report under section 4 of the Act will be sent to the Cork County Council shortly.
