Vol. 493 No. 3

Written Answers. - Remedial Teachers.

Richard Bruton

Question:

469 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the criteria, if any, on which remedial teachers have been allocated in the secondary voluntary, VEC and community and comprehensive schools; and the allocation of remedial teachers by size of school and by type of school. [16066/98]

Ex-quota remedial posts are allocated to second level schools on the basis of priority of need and having regard to existing provision within schools and the recommendations of my Department's psychological service. In the current school year there are 350 ex-quota remedial posts allocated to second level schools as follows: secondary sector, 129 posts; vocational sector, 140 posts; and community/comprehensive sector, 81 posts. Details of the allocation of posts by reference to size of school are not readily available.
