Vol. 219 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ireland—Australia Social Benefits Agreement.

35.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether his attention has been drawn to the remarks made by the Australian Ambassador on 26th October regarding the desirability of a reciprocal agreement on social benefits between this country and Australia; and if he will initiate negotiations leading to such an agreement.

I have seen reports of the Ambassador's remarks and while I am not aware of any case of hardship having arisen due to the lack of agreement I am having an examination made of the possibility of making reciprocal arrangements with Australia in regard to social welfare matters.
