Vol. 219 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Sewerage Schemes.

33.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for local Government if he will make a statement on the cause of the delay in proceeding with the proposed sewerage scheme at Swanlinbar, County Cavan; if a tender has been submitted for approval; and, if so, when he proposes to approve it.

Cavan County Council's proposal to accept the lowest tender for this scheme was received in my Department in October and is at present under consideration. I am not in a position to say when a decision thereon will issue to the council.

(Cavan) Is the tender in order?

I do not know.

(Cavan): Might I ask the Minister to give a decision on it without delay?

As soon as possible.

(Cavan): Does the Minister appreciate that the sewerage facilities there are very inadequate?

I am quite well aware that the situation is bad there.

(Cavan): Could the Minister give any indication when he will deal with the proposal?

It would be dangerous at this stage.

(Cavan): May we take it as being put on the long finger?

No, the middle finger.

That is the longest finger on the normal hand.

34.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the present sewerage facilities in Blacklion, County Cavan are grossly inadequate; if he will explain the delay in proceeding with the proposed sewerage scheme in that vicinity; if he has received a tender for the proposed scheme; and, if so, when he proposes to approve of it.

Due to the failure of two contractors, whose tenders were approved in November, 1964, and May, 1965, respectively, to proceed with work on this scheme, Cavan County Council are now proposing to re-advertise for tenders for a third time. This proposal was submitted to my Department on 4th November and I shall convey my views thereon to the council in the near future.
