Vol. 219 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Athlone Industry.

45.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if any grant or privileges were made available to the industry established at Monksland, Athlone; the number of people employed therein; the date production began; the number of executive officers on the staff; and by whom residential quarters attached thereto are occupied.

The industry referred to by the Deputy manufactures a range of industrial precision instruments and was established with the aid of a grant from An Foras Tionscal. Production of instruments commenced in November, 1964, and management of the factory is undertaken by one full time executive from the parent firm. It would be contrary to normal practice for me to give the number of employees in an individual firm. The residential quarters mentioned by the Deputy were not the subject of any Foras Tionscal grant and I have no function in regard to them.
