Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dairy Products Industry.

49.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what progress has been made towards implementing the recommendations of the survey team which examined the dairy products industry; and if he will make a statement indicating his Department's intentions regarding the reorganisation and rationalisation of the creamery industry.

Many of the recommendations of this survey team were addressed to the dairying industry itself. In so far as official action is involved, Government policy was set out in the publication "Agriculture in the Second Programme for Economic Expansion" and a number of the recommendations have already been implemented. On the major question of the re-organisation and rationalisation of the creamery industry draft plans have been prepared and I am arranging for a discussion with the Irish Agricultural Organisation Society on this whole question at an early date.
