Vol. 219 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Warble Fly Eradication.

53.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is satisfied that farmers are treating all their herds under the warble fly eradication scheme and not just those cattle which it is intended to sell in the immediate future.

The instructions issued to herd-owners under the warble Fly Scheme required them to present for treatment all the cattle in their herds, with certain limited exceptions. It is clear from our records that farmers did not present only those cattle intended for sale in the immediate future.

54.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is satisfied with the progress to date of the warble fly eradication scheme in County Galway; if he will make a statement on the matter stating the number of cattle so treated; and if he will give an estimate of the number yet to be treated.

The progress made generally under the Warble Fly Scheme in County Galway has been satisfactory. Approximately 250,000 cattle had been treated in the county up to the end of last week, out of a total of probably around 280,000.
