Vol. 219 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Education Policy.

74.

asked the Minister for Education if he received a letter from the Irish hierarchy on 17th October, 1965 in connection with his education policy for the future, with special reference to the proposed closing of two-teacher schools in rural Ireland; if the Government considered this letter; if any decision has been taken on this matter; and if he will make a statement in regard to it.

The Deputy must appreciate that in accordance with ordinary procedure and as a matter of common courtesy, I cannot give him the information which he seeks or make any comment on his question.

Would the Minister say whether he has received a communication without saying what it contained?

I have outlined in my reply that I am precluded, and the reasons why I am precluded, from making any comment. I trust Deputy Lindsay will appreciate those reasons.

I am not a bishop.
