Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Guaranteed Price for Potatoes and Oats.

134.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will arrange a guaranteed price for potatoes and oats which are major products on most Western farms, as the quantity then produced would be much greater and would provide the security so necessary for planning, investment and confidence.

It is not considered advisable to fix guaranteed prices for potatoes or oats having regard to the fact that the vast bulk of these crops is not marketed commercially but is used on the farms where they are grown. There is of course a protected home market for such part of the production as is sold commercially.
