Vol. 221 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supply of Drugs to Dispensaries.

72.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that pharmaceutical products of questionable quality and potency are still being supplied from the Dublin Health Authority Central Pharmacy to public dispensaries; and that this constitutes a great danger to health; and if he will give an assurance that these drugs will be withdrawn immediately.

I am not aware that the position is as stated by the Deputy. Inquiries I have made indicate, however, that the Dublin Health Authority is supplying a limited number of drugs obtained from a firm which is not approved for the purposes of the Local Authorities (Combined Purchasing) Act, 1939. I am pursuing the matter with the Minister for Local Government.

Did the Minister last year not give an assurance that drugs from this particular company would not be purchased in future? The Minister also said that no further supplies would be made available from the central depot, and despite these assurances supplies of these drugs, which are of questionable quality, are still being dispensed from the Central Pharmacy of Dublin Health Authority.

Better ask the Minister for Justice.

Would the Minister not answer the question?

The Minister can scarcely answer again what he has already answered.

How is the Minister for Health getting on in connection with the pharmacy?

Very well.

Would the Minister say how he feels——

I feel all right but I was not asked that.

(Interruptions.)
