Vol. 221 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Lands.

61.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the desirability of allocating land during the winter months to enable those who are allocated land to plan their farming programme well in advance of the sowing season; and if he will take steps to ensure that this is done in as many cases as possible.

Where acquired land is intended for allotment to locals, it is divided as soon as possible after possession is obtained. In the case of migrants, however, it is the experience of the Land Commission that allotments are best made in early spring and that, in fact, this is the time which is most favoured by migrants. Earlier allotment would inevitably raise problems in regard to winter feeding of stock.
