Vol. 221 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork River Drainage.

23.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works consented to the drainage of the rivers Buingea and Teene, on condition that Cork County Council would maintain them at a cost of £560 annually; and if Cork County Council have yet replied to a letter sent to them by the Office of Public Works in September, 1964.

That is not quite the position. The Commissioners of Public Works informed Cork County Council that they would be prepared to recommend to the Minister for Finance a drainage scheme for this area under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. The provisions of that Act require that, if the scheme were to proceed, the works would be maintained by the Commissioners of Public Works and the cost of maintenance would be recoverable from the county council.

The letter of September, 1964, invited the council's observations but a reply has not yet been received.
