Vol. 221 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leinster House Building.

24.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Finance the date on which work on the new building to provide further accommodation for Members and staff of the Houses of the Oireachtas at Leinster House commenced; the approximate extent of the accommodation provided; the date on which it is anticipated that the building will be ready for occupation; and the estimated cost thereof.

Work on the new building commenced in October, 1962.

The five upper floors of the new block provide approximately 30,000 square feet of office space, and the ground floor will contain a restaurant which will seat 200 people, approximately. The basement will provide about 9,000 square feet of floor space for plant, stores, etc.

It is expected that the five office floors will be completed towards the end of April next, the restaurant some weeks later.

The new block forms part of a major scheme of alterations and additions to Leinster House which it is estimated will cost approximately £650,000 and be completed by the end of 1966.
