Vol. 221 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Harbour Facilities.

67.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what efforts are being made to provide adequate harbours and landing facilities for fishermen on the Kerry coast.

All reasonable measures are being taken by my Department in collaboration with the Office of Public Works, the Special Employment Schemes Office and Roinn na Gaeltachta, to provide adequate harbours and landing facilities for fishermen on the Kerry coast where required to enable existing fishing activity to be maintained or to provide for an anticipated expansion in the local fishing industry.

Works are already in progress at Chirciveen and Renard Point and are due for commencement this year at Ballydavid. Investigations are in progress about suggested works at Fenit, Portmagee, Cromane, Cashen and Glen Pier, Ballinskelligs, but I cannot say at present whether new works may be finally approved or when they may be carried out.
