Vol. 221 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Pedestrian Crossings.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, having regard to the increasing vehicular traffic on and pedestrian traffic across Ballyfermot Road, Dublin to schools, shops, the church and public transport, zebra pedestrian crossings will soon be provided on that road.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, having regard to the traffic hazards caused by insufficiently illuminated roundabouts at Dromfin Road, Grange Cross and Kylemore Road-Ballyfermot Road Junction in Ballyfermot, Dublin Corporation propose to provide additional public lighting and illuminated traffic signs and zebra pedestrian crossings at these locations.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together.

The provision of traffic signs, including pedestrian crossings, in the Dublin area is a matter for Dublin Corporation acting at the request or with the consent of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána. The provision of public lighting there is a matter for Dublin Corporation.

I understand that the authorities concerned propose, during the year, to investigate the need to provide pedestrian crossings in the Ballyfermot area.

I wonder would the Minister ask the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána to consider the position, and particularly the roundabout at Dromfin Road, which roundabout has been mounted twice recently by motor cars not observing that it is there and running right into the middle of it?

I will pass the Deputy's comments on to both authorities.
