Vol. 221 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cavan Vocational Schools.

34.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Education if he will explain the cause of the delay in approving of the plans of the Cavan Vocational Education Committee for an extension to Kilnaleck vocational school, County Cavan; and if he will take steps to approve of them now.

The revised sketch plans submitted by County Cavan Vocational Education Committee on 28th September, 1965, in respect of the proposed extension to Kilnaleck vocational school have recently been approved by my Department. It is not considered that there was any undue delay in examining these plans.

35.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement on the delay in approving of the proposals of Cavan Vocational Education Committee for the erection of a vocational school at Kingscourt, County Cavan; and when approval may be expected.

I have approved in principle of the proposal of County Cavan Vocational Education Committee for the provision of a vocational school at Kingscourt. I am unable, however, to deal finally with the committee's proposal to purchase a site for the school pending the submission of details in regard to title and services to the site, which have been requested by my Department.

(Cavan): Can the Minister not inform the committee whether the site is suitable, subject to the title being in order? Surely there is not much point in investigating the title for the site if the Minister does not consider that the site itself is suitable?

The committee was asked to submit its architect's report on the site, together with information regarding the title and information as to whether the committee would be responsible for the cost or any part of the cost of extending the public sewer to the school. I think it will be clear to the Deputy, from these queries, that it would be impossible for us to approve of the site without replies to them.

(Cavan): Could the Minister tell the House when the committee was asked to submit that information?

On 21st February, 1965.

(Cavan): That is, since this question was put down.

I do not think so, unless the Deputy delayed his question deliberately.

Next question.
