Vol. 221 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) Vocational School.

36.

asked the Minister for Education when he hopes to be in a position to sanction the building of a vocational school at Clondalkin, County Dublin.

The examination of the recent survey made of the education requirements of the Clondalkin area is in the course of completion. From the evidence available to date, it is likely that it will be possible for me to allow the County Dublin Vocational Education Committee to proceed shortly with the further arrangements for the building of this school.

I am very grateful to the Minister for that good news.

I hoped that that was not an inspired question and that the reply would be favourable.

It was not.

We are not unaware of the Minister's action of simply delaying the erection of this school in Clondalkin when it was perfectly obvious, months ago, that there was an urgent need for it. There was no need for this farcical inquiry from the Minister's colleague, Deputy P.J. Burke.

The Deputy is talking through his hat.

The Minister acknowledges here that the recommendation of the Dublin Vocational Education Committee has been confirmed by his own inquiries and the Minister is supported in that view by Deputy P.J. Burke.

No doubt the Deputy will now take over County Dublin.

The Deputy ought to be aware that at no stage did I say the recommendation of the Dublin Vocational Education Committee was wrong.

The Minister doubted it.

I said it was possible that we would ask them to extend the school—and we may yet have to do this.

We agree.

We should be very pleased so long as it is not delayed.
