Vol. 221 No. 8

Written Answers. - Report of Commission on Higher Education.

83.

asked the Minister for Education (a) if the Report of the Commission on Higher Education is available only in the English version so far, (b) if the delay in publication is due to its being translated at present into Irish, (c) if he has seen the draft report, (d) when the report will be made available (e) when decisions on it can be expected, (f) when a decision on Limerick's claim to a college of the National University is likely to emerge, and (g) if improved university facilities will be available in the session 1966-67, and where they can be expected.

The report of the Commission is not yet available, in either language. It has not been delayed for the purpose of having it translated. I have not seen a draft report and am not in a position to say precisely when the report will be published.

Every effort is being made to complete it as soon as possible this year, but I cannot, pending its publication, anticipate such decisions as may be taken in the field of higher education as a result of it. I am satisfied that the university facilities in 1966-67 will meet the demand for university education in that year.
