Vol. 221 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - SDA Loans.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that over 640 applicants are awaiting SDA loans from the Dublin County Council; that 117 applicants have been on the waiting list since prior to 1st October, 1965; that approximately £1,480,000 would be required to accommodate these prospective borrowers; and that only £200,000 has been advanced from the local loans fund; and if he will make a statement on the availability of funds for housing purposes.

I understand that Dublin County Council have before them a total of 632 applications for house-purchase loans involving a gross expenditure of the order of £1½m. Of these, 273 applications have been provisionally approved and 359 cases are in course of investigation. I have no information as to the number of these applications which were received before 1st October last.

Loan instalments totalling £450,000 were issued from the Local Loans Fund during the current financial year as compared with a total of £250,000 in 1964-65. The council were notified this week of their capital allocation for the coming financial year in respect of house-purchase loans. They have also been informed that, for the purpose of the forward allocation of loans, they may assume that the capital allocation for 1967-68 will be of the same general order as in 1966-67.

The council should now be in a position to determine the level of allocations which they may make for some time to come and remove any element of uncertainty that may now exist in this respect.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state, in respect of issues from the local loans fund for SDA local authority purposes as regards (a) Meath County Council, (b) Louth County Council and (c) Dublin County Council for the period 1st April 1965 to date, (1) the amount of each loan and the date on which sanction was sought; (2) the date of sanction; (3) the amounts issued from the local loans fund in respect of each loan and the dates of issue; and (4) the outstanding amounts not yet issued to each county council.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.
