Vol. 221 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Housing Land.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the manager of a housing authority stated at a meeting held on 14th March, 1966, that lands already acquired at Skerries, County Dublin, are adequate to meet the established need, although no sites have been acquired to accommodate over 20 applicants for local authority houses; and that Skerries is one of the town areas in Dublin County where services are available; and if he will state, in advance of the coming into operation of the Housing Act, 1966, what steps could be taken by the elected representatives to require the manager to acquire additional land at Skerries and Swords to accommodate existing applicants for housing accommodation.

I am informed that the manager's statement was to the effect that lands already acquired, or in course of acquisition, were adequate to meet the established need. I understand that some further applications for housing accommodation are under examination, and that appropriate steps will be taken in due course to acquire lands to meet such further needs as may be established.

As regards the power of elected members of a local authority to require the manager to acquire land for housing, I would refer the Deputy to section 4 of the City and County Management (Amendment) Act, 1955.

Back to section 4 again.

Has Deputy Seán Dunne left the Labour Party again?
