Vol. 221 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Kerrygold Butter in London.

37.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the date in 1965 when Kerrygold butter was put on sale in Harrods of London; the date on which it was subsequently removed from sale; the amount sold in the store during the period; and the circumstances leading to its removal from the store.

I am informed by An Bord Bainne that Kerrygold butter was first put on sale at Messrs Harrods, Ltd., London, on 4th August, 1965, and that it has been on sale there continuously since that date. As regards the amount sold in this store, it would not be desirable to publish details of the Board's transactions with an individual firm, but I can say that sales have been satisfactory.

Can the Minister say was it withdrawn at any stage?

We were intrigued to know why the Deputy put down the question.

The Minister might be intrigued to know that there was some criticism of the promotion scheme.

It was on sale in Harrods all the time.

Was there any objection from the authorities in Harrods at the method of promotion?

No; I saw it there myself. I discussed the product with one of the managers and he was very pleased with it.

Were they satisfied with the methods of promotion?
