Following is the reply:— Cork County Council were informed last week of their capital allocation for the coming financial year in respect of local authority housing schemes. They have been requested to decide the order of priority of works to be undertaken within that allocation. Approval will be given to the appropriate loans on the basis of the Council's decision. The general position regarding the capital allocation for sanitary services for 1966-67 is under examination.

The Parliamentary Secretary's Department has circulated to local authorities within the past few days a statement giving the allocations referred to in this question. Is he aware that Cork County Council (West) has commitments for 40 new houses, and the amount allocated for Cork County Council (West) for 1966-67, according to the statement, is given here by three letters n-i-l? How does the Parliamentary Secretary expect Cork County Council (West) to build houses in 1966-67—is it with marbles?—seeing that the amount allocated is nil? In view of the many statements written and verbal, submitted to local authorities by the Minister for Local Government asking them to expedite housing programmes——
