Vol. 222 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

36.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state fully the present position regarding the proposed group water supply scheme at Rossbrin, Ballydehob, County Cork; and when he expects this scheme to be carried out.

A tentative scheme to cover about 45 houses in this area is before my Department. The Schull/ Ballydehob water supply scheme, which it is intended to use as a source of supply, requires to be augmented to meet the needs of the Rossbrin group. Proposals to this effect, which were received in my Department from Cork County Council last week, are under examination. When a decision is reached in this matter, the group will be requested to arrange for the preparation of plans for their scheme.

Is the money to be made available? I could not hear anything the Parliamentary Secretary said. Will he answer "yes" or "no"?

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is yet in a position to make a statement about the date when loans will be sanctioned for (a) Crookhaven water supply and sewerage scheme and (b) Goleen sewerage scheme, County Cork.

My Department has requested the submission by the county council of detailed plans for a recently proposed addition to Goleen sewerage scheme. Technical documents for Crookhaven water and sewerage schemes are under examination in my Department.

The question of the financing of the schemes will not arise until final plans have been approved.

I put down Questions Nos. 36 and 37, but I did not hear the answers. I am entitled to get answers to both questions.

I did not get an answer to my question.

Replies have been given to those questions.

Would the Chair let us know what the reply was?

The Chair is not in a position to do so. The Parliamentary Secretary read them.

As the Member who put down Questions Nos. 36 and 37, I want to voice a strong protest against this. It is entirely against Parliamentary rules and procedure that a Member who puts down a question cannot hear the answer to it.

The Deputy was talking to himself. That is why he could not hear.

I was not talking to myself.

38.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give immediate sanction to the application for a loan by Mayo County Council for the completion of a sewerage scheme at Foxford.

Mayo County Council's applications for loans of £36,000 and £42,000 to finance Foxford sewerage scheme were sanctioned on 13th December, 1960, and 31st March, 1965, respectively. I understand that the main scheme has in fact been completed. There are no further loan proposals for this scheme before my Department.

May I inquire from the Parliamentary Secretary if he has stated that he has got no proposal for the extension of the Foxford sewerage scheme?

Applications for loans to finance the Foxford sewerage scheme were sanctioned on 13th December, 1960 and 31st March, 1965. As I have said, the main scheme has been completed and there are no further loan proposals for this scheme before my Department.

39.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the serious delay in having water and sewerage facilities extended to Ballina Quay area, Ballina, County Mayo; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy this situation.

There are no proposals before my Department for a water supply for the Ballina Quay area. I understand from Mayo County Council that there is, in fact, an existing piped water supply in this area.

Final plans and drawings for Ballina Quay sewerage scheme were received from the county council on 4th January last and are at present under examination in my Department.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that quite a number of people in the Ballina Quay area have not got the water supply and are still awaiting the sewerage?

They have got the water supply.

Many people were left out. There should be an extension of the scheme.

That is a matter for Mayo County Council.
