Vol. 222 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Tax on Invalids' Cars.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will exempt from road tax all motor cars designed for and used by invalids and physically handicapped people; or if he will make available a grant to such people to pay the tax.

It is not proposed to exempt such vehicles from payment of motor tax. I would point out that there is already in existence a concession rate of 5/- a year for vehicles not exceeding six cwt. in weight unladen, adapted and used for invalids.

I have no statutory authority to make grants of the nature envisaged in the last part of the question.
