Vol. 223 No. 5

Written Answers. - Contributing to social Insurance Fund.

31.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give a breakdown of contributions from employers and insured persons to the Social Insurance Fund, in each of the years ended 31st March, 1959 to 1965, inclusive, under the heading compulsory contributions in respect of (1) men, ordinary rates, (2) women, ordinary rates, (3) men, engaged mainly in agriculture, (4) women, engaged mainly in agriculture, (5) men, engaged mainly in domestic service, (6) women, engaged mainly in domestic service, (7) men, engaged mainly as outworkers, (8) women, engaged mainly as outworkers, (9) men, wholly or mainly engaged in share fishing, (10) women, wholly or mainly engaged in share fishing, (11) men, otherwise engaged in share fishing, (12) women, otherwise engaged in share fishing, (13) men, insured only for widows' and orphans' pensions and (14) women, insured only for widows' and orphans' pensions.

A breakdown of contributions from employers and employees to the Social Insurance Fund cannot be given under all the headings in the Question because a particular rate of contribution may be common to more than one class of employment. Moreover, when contributions are revised the new rate for a certain class may be the same as the superseded rate for another class. The information requested, in so far as it can be compiled, is given in the following table:

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will give a breakdown of contributions from employers and insured persons to the Social Insurance Fund, in each of the years ended 31st March, 1959 to 1965, inclusive, under the heading voluntary contributions in respect of (1) men, insured for contributory old age, widows' and orphans' pensions, (2) women, insured for contributory old age, widows' and orphans' pensions, (3) men, insured for widows' and orphans' pensions and (4) women, insured for widows' and orphans' pensions.

Employers are not involved in the payment of voluntary contributions by insured persons to the Social Insurance Fund.

The information cannot be given for all the years for which it is required because, during the greater part of the period covered, voluntary contribution rates were the same as the rates for certain classes of compulsory insurance. Figures for the years in which voluntary contributions can be identified are given in the following table. A breakdown of contributions as between men and women is not available. Men and women contribute at the same rates.
