Vol. 223 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Road Improvements.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will inquire from the Kerry county engineer the reason for the exclusion from this year's road improvements scheme of the widening and improvement of the Kilderry section of the Milltown-Killorglin Road in view of its dangerous condition for modern heavy traffic.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will find out from the Kerry county engineer why the widening project at Tobin's Corner, Killorglin and along the Iveragh Road was excluded from this year's programme, particularly in view of the necessity of improvement along this tourist route.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 20 and 21 together.

The proposals in which the Deputy is interested relate to main roads. The formulation of proposals for execution under the Main Road Improvement Grant of £109,560 made available to the Kerry County Council in the current financial year is a matter in the first instance for the local authority. To date the local authority have submitted only one proposal for execution under that grant to my Department and the submission of their further proposals is awaited.
