Vol. 223 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Building Credit Facilities.

8.

asked the Minister for Finance the steps which he is taking to improve substantially credit for house building purposes.

I would refer the Deputy to the Capital Budget, 1966 (Pr. 8733) which deals with the financing of the various constituents of the public capital programme for 1966-67 including housing.

The Minister will appreciate that bad as the situation is at present, it could become a great deal worse, and the prospect of recovery more difficult and prolonged, unless there is a radical improvement in the provision of credit for the building of houses for our people. Can the Minister not hold out something more concrete than the verbiage contained in the Government's previously published statements?

The provision of capital for housing is under constant review. This is all that can be done by any Minister for Finance.

Can we look forward to an improvement in the near future? Can the Minister say "yes" to that?
