Vol. 223 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Government Borrowing Abroad.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance whether it is proposed to borrow any more money from abroad before the end of this financial year; and if so, how much.

When introducing the Financial Resolutions on 14 June, 1966, I stated that, in order to finance the public capital programme at the level fixed in the Budget, it would be necessary to borrow £10 million or more from abroad to supplement home savings. Since then a loan of £5 million was accepted from the Bank of Nova Scotia. I am not prepared to make any statement in advance as to how or when the balance of the foreign borrowing will be effected.
