Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Hospital Female Staff.

53.

andMr. Casey asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the great dissatisfaction that exists because of the delay which the female domestics employed in the Cork Military Hospital have experienced in the finalising of their claims; and if he will take the necessary steps to ensure that representatives of his Department will meet representatives of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union to explore the possibility of finalising this long outstanding matter.

The claim made in this case is similar to one which was served simultaneously on voluntary hospitals and private institutions in the Cork city area. It is not the practice of my Department to negotiate on a claim of this nature in advance of the settlement in comparable outside employment and accordingly, until such settlement is reached, a discussion could not serve any useful purpose.

The local representative of the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union was so advised.
