Vol. 223 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tourist Drive.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether in view of the disruption of the tourist industry in the early part of the present season he has had any discussions with Bord Fáilte with a view to launching an intensive drive to attract extra tourists during the late autumn; and, if so, if he will give details of any plans which have been formulated.

I have had discussions with Bord Fáilte about the effects of the British shipping strike on the tourist industry this year. Extra selling efforts and direct mailing specifically designed to attract tourists in the autumn are being carried out by the Board. Spectacular results cannot be expected from these measures because the holiday plans of most of our visitors from abroad would have been made well in advance.
