Vol. 224 No. 1

18.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of the external assets held by (a) Government funds (b) the Central Bank (c) associated banks and (d) other banks to which banking licences have been granted by the Central Bank, for each month of 1965 and 1966 to date.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

NOTE: (i) The figures for the Associated Banks relate to net external assets. Owing to the recent bank dispute, figures from May onwards are not yet available.

(ii) Monthly figures are not available for the other banks. The only information at present is that the external liabilities of these banks exceeded their external assets by £5 million at the end of 1965.

(Bankers' licences are not issued by the Central Bank but by the Revenue Commissioners.)
