Vol. 224 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beef Exports to Britain.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the quantity and value of carcase beef exported to Britain during the present year.

Domestic exports of carcase beef to Britain in the period January-July, 1966 (the latest period for which such information is available) amounted to 346,882 cwts, value £4,834,518.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say how these figures compare with last year's exports for the same period?

A 60 per cent increase.

In volume?

In volume and in money value. I shall give you the figures for last year: 227,183 cwt, value £3,042,591.

If there is this increase, the producer is not getting it.

I was asked what the increase was and I gave it.

This does not arise on the Question.

Who is getting it?

I know the answer is not satisfactory from the Deputy's point of view.

The farmers are certainly not getting it. They are getting £20 less.
