Domestic exports of carcase beef to Britain in the period January-July, 1966 (the latest period for which such information is available) amounted to 346,882 cwts, value £4,834,518.
Could the Parliamentary Secretary say how these figures compare with last year's exports for the same period?
A 60 per cent increase.
In volume?
In volume and in money value. I shall give you the figures for last year: 227,183 cwt, value £3,042,591.
If there is this increase, the producer is not getting it.
I was asked what the increase was and I gave it.
This does not arise on the Question.
Who is getting it?
I know the answer is not satisfactory from the Deputy's point of view.
The farmers are certainly not getting it. They are getting £20 less.
