Vol. 224 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Home-Made Fireworks Accidents.

13.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that the dangerous practice of manufacturing home-made fireworks has increased since the sale of commercially produced fireworks has been prohibited, with the result that the danger of children injuring themselves has increased; and if he will give details of injuries reported as a result of home made fireworks and give comparative details of such accidents before the sale of fireworks was prohibited.

I am not aware that there is any problem of the kind referred to. There have been a few cases of injury resulting from the manufacture of home-made "bombs" by young boys, but I have no reason to think that these incidents had any direct connection with the policy of refusing to grant licences for the importation of fireworks save for use in properly organised public-displays.

Do we have to import fireworks?

Under licence.

They are a home industry.
