Vol. 224 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - TV Reception in Ballymun Houses.

19.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that, because of the unique features of the Ballymun housing project, it will not be possible for residents to have individual outdoor television aerials; that reception of Telefís Éireann programmes on indoor aerials in the two-storey houses will not be satisfactory because of the adjacent high buildings; and that under his Department's existing policy a large number of communal aerials would be necessary to give the residents a choice of the television programmes normally available in the Dublin area; and if he will therefore agree that a large scale multi-channel television communal aerial service may be provided at Ballymun.

In view of the special circumstances which apply to the Ballymun housing project, it has been decided to request Radio Telefís Éireann to provide a multi-channel communal television-aerial service there. My Department is at present in touch with Radio Telefís Éireann about the details of the scheme to implement this decision.

Mr. O'Malley

The Fine Gael Party have gone out to Telefís Éireann quite often to make representations about the removal of a certain programme.

Are you afraid we might tell some of the stories about the land on Telefís Éireann?

Will the Minister for Education please answer the question he is asked?

Mr. O'Malley

I would say that if Deputy Sweetman has any stories to tell, he might come off worse in the end.

He did not buy Holmes's land and sell it again after town planning came.

Will the Minister for Education please answer the question he is asked?

Mr. O'Malley

If Deputy Sweetman considers that I have acted in a derogatory manner at any time, he is free to raise the matter in this House.

(Cavan): The Minister is disorderly.

I shall adjourn the House. The Minister is showing total disrespect for the chair.
