Vol. 224 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Age Limits for Driving Licences.

7.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will consider either raising the age at which a person may hold a class G driving licence or reducing the age at which a person may hold a class C driving licence, in view of the fact that a person in a four wheel vehicle is usually less prone to injury than a person on a two wheel vehicle.

I do not propose, at this stage, to review the minimum age limits for holding licences to drive the various classes of vehicles. These limits were determined as recently as 1964 following full consideration of all the factors involved. Accident statistics since then confirm the wisdom of the decision taken.
