Vol. 224 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun Road Speed Limit.

8.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange as a matter of urgency to have the 30 mph speed limit on Ballymun Road, Dublin, extended to a point beyond Saint Pappin's national school, so as to provide more safety for children from the new Ballymun scheme who have to cross this road to attend the school.

The desirability of extending the speed limit on Ballymun Road to a point north of St. Pappin's national school, will be considered during the review of speed limits at present being carried out by my Department.

Is the Minister aware that, due to traffic congestion on the main Dublin-Swords road, the Ballymun road is now being used by a heavy volume of traffic? Many of these people going to the airport travel very fast. The extension of the speed limit to a point beyond the school would be an added safeguard until the school is built. As the Minister is aware, the school is in the course of being built at present. There is a considerable amount of anxiety in relation to the safety of these children. In addition, there is no traffic warden either. About 100 children from the estate use it.

I am aware of all these factors.

If a decision could be made soon it would be helpful.

As soon as I possibly can.
