Vol. 224 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grading of Cafés and Restaurants.

4.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if it is intended to register and grade cafés and restaurants in a manner similar to that applicable to hotels.

The Tourist Traffic Acts provide for the registration and grading of hotels, guesthouses, holiday hostels, youth hostels, holiday camps, motor hotels and caravan and camping sites. The Acts do not provide for the registration and grading of cafés and restaurants and it is not my intention, at present, to introduce legislation to provide for the registration and grading of such premises.

Cafés and restaurants are, however, subject to the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1950, which are administered by the local health authority and which provide for the registration and inspection of these premises.
