Vol. 224 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cash in Lieu of Free Fuel.

23.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if, having regard to the absence of fireplaces in the Ballymun housing scheme which will prevent recipients of free fuel from using turf, he will have cash payments in lieu of fuel paid to such persons to help them to defray the cost of central heating.

The cost of the turf supplied to those recipients who receive fuel free is borne by the local authority concerned and the question raised by the Deputy would seem to be a matter primarily for Dublin Health Authority.

If Dublin Health Authority propose to give cash payments to the people in Ballymun in lieu of the provision of turf will the Minister approve the scheme?

That will be a matter for the health authority.
