Vol. 225 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rents Increase Protest.

48.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he will receive representations of tenants' associations who propose to parade later this month in protest against the rent increases; whether he will require a memorandum beforehand; and whether his Department have any requirements prior to receiving deputations.

I have been asked to receive a letter from a delegation from the Action Committee of the Central Tenants Council and I have agreed to do so.

It is the normal practice for deputations received in my Department to submit in advance a summary of the matters they wish to discuss.

Mr. O'Leary

The Minister has earned a bonus for that reply and should be complimented on his courtesy. I commend his action to his colleagues who have not shown the same courtesy to other organisations.

The Deputy is not entitled to make a speech during Question Time.

I should like to say that when we get a reasonable request, we are the most reasonable people in the world in dealing with it.
