Vol. 225 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Attendance Act.

51.

asked the Minister for Education when he intends to introduce promised legislation to amend the School Attendance Act, 1926.

Mr. O'Malley

The drafting of the necessary Bill is being put in the hands of the parliamentary draftsman. I will endeavour to have it circulated before the end of the present session.

Can the Minister give us an assurance that it will be? He is the third Minister now to promise it. It was promised by the Minister for Labour, Deputy Dr. Hillery, when he was Minister for Education, and by the Minister for Industry and Commerce, Deputy Colley, when he was Minister for Education. Both of them said it was non-controversial and would be introduced without delay. Will we be third time lucky?

This Minister is resigning in September.
