No application for a loan of £20,000 for cottage repairs has been received in my Department. An application for a loan of £45,000 was received on 10th May last. The Department was recently informed that a loan of only £30,000 would be made available by the lenders.
This revised application will be considered in the light of the outcome of a general review of capital expenditure now in progress and with regard to the need for conserving available capital for the construction of urgently needed new dwellings. The great majority of local authorities finance from revenue the type of work for which this loan is sought.
