Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Tipperary Housing and Sanitary Services.

21.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the total allocation to date for the current financial year to Tipperary South Riding County Council in respect of (a) sanitary services, (b) building new cottages, and (c) cottage repairs.

The total capital allocation to date, for the current financial year, to Tipperary South Riding County Council in respect of sanitary services and house building is £116,239 and £59,000 respectively. The council meet the cost of cottage repairs from revenue.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the amount issued from Tipperary South Riding County Council for the year ended 31st March, 1966 as supplementary grants for (a) new houses, (b) house reconstruction, and (c) sanitary services.

The amounts paid in supplementary grants by the council for the year ended 31st March, 1966, were:— (a) New houses, £9,898; (b) reconstruction, etc., £18,102; (c) sanitary services, £2,321.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the number of grants issued from his Department to private persons or concerns in County Tipperary in respect of (a) new houses, (b) reconstruction and (c) sanitary services for the year ended 31st March, 1966.

The number of cases where grants were fully paid by my Department within the year ended 31st March, 1966 were:— (a) new houses, 214; (b) reconstruction, including essential repair grants, 475; (c) sanitary services, 302.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the number of new houses completed by (a) local authorities and (b) private enterprise for the years ended 31st March, 1965 and 31st March, 1966.

The total number of new houses provided during the year ended 31st March, 1965, was 9,679, comprising 2,307 local authority and 7,372 other houses as detailed in the reply to Question No. 33. The corresponding total for the year ended the 31st March, 1966, was 11,255, comprising 2,989 local authority and 8,266 other houses. The totals for other houses include 6,508 and 7,427 houses for which grants were fully paid by my Department in the years 1964-65 and 1965-66, respectively, and about 400 houses estimated to have been provided in each year without the aid of grants or by means of conversions of existing dwellings.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the annual disbursement by his Department over the past ten years for housing in the form of (a) grants (b) subsidies and (c) otherwise.

26.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the total (a) rent and (b) rates received by Tipperary South Riding County Council in respect of the domestic housing estate for the year ended 31st March 1966.

I understand that Tipperary South Riding County Council received a total of £15,983 in rent and of £9,993 in rates in respect of their rented houses during the year ended 31st March, 1966.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state, in respect of Tipperary South Riding for the year ended 31st March, 1966, the total expenditure on maintenance and repair of their domestic housing property, the total number of houses in the council's estate at that date, and the number of these houses vested.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the expenditure of Tipperary South Riding County Council for the year ended 31st March 1966 on (a) vesting repairs and (b) non-vesting repairs on county council cottages.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of houses in Tipperary South Riding vested at 31st March, 1966.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 27, 28 and 29 together.

I understand that during the year ended on 31st March, 1966, Tipperary South Riding County Council expended £41,705 on the maintenance and repair of council cottages. The financial records kept by the council do not distinguish between vesting and other repairs. Up to 31st March, 1966, the council had provided 3,378 dwellings of which 2,144 were vested in the tenants at that date.
