Vol. 225 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bank External Assets and Deposits.

58.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of October 1966 the nett external assets of the commercial banks, the commercial bank deposits, and the percentage ratio of the nett external assets of the commercial banks to the commercial banks deposits.

The net external assets of the Associated Banks at 18th October, 1966 amounted to £85,667,000. Current and deposit accounts in the banks on the same date amounted to £684,111,000 of which £529,716,000 were deposits within the State. The ratio of net external assets to deposits within the State was 16.2 per cent.

Would the Minister have the figure for net external assets held by the Government?

No; I have got it in connection with the banks only.
