Vol. 225 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballina Public Convenience.

5.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether an application from the Ballina Urban District Council for a licence pursuant to the provisions of the Foreshore Act, 1933 was received in his Department in April 1966; the reason for the delay in dealing with this application; and what steps he proposes to take to have the matter expedited.

An application was received in my Department in November, 1965, from Ballina Urban District Council for a licence under the Foreshore Act, 1933, in connection with a proposal to erect a public convenience near Ham Bridge, Ballina.

Following initial consultation with interested parties, the proposal was advertised by the council in April, 1966, and an objection was received. Certain amenity aspects of this proposal have also had to be considered in consultation with the Department of Local Government and other interests. When this consultation is completed, I shall be in a position to convey a decision to the council in relation to the position under the Foreshore Act, 1933.

Does the Minister not consider that too much time has elapsed and that there has been too much hullabaloo and nonsense in connection with a small proposal such as this? Surely the Minister should be able to see to it that something is done to expedite the matter?

The matter is one for a number of different Departments and, as the Deputy knows, the amenity aspect has to be considered.
