Vol. 225 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gorey Housing Scheme.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the housing scheme in French's Field, Gorey, County Wexford will be commenced.

I understand that tenders will be re-invited shortly by the Wexford County Council for a revised larger scheme of 28 houses at French's Field, Gorey. I am not, therefore, in a position, at this stage, to say when work on the scheme will be commenced. The necessary capital allocation for the financing of the scheme has been approved.

Can the Minister indicate the reason for the interminable delay with regard to this housing scheme?

They have first to get tenders for the scheme before work can commence.

I was told that six or eight months ago by the Minister's predecessor. What has happened? Can the Minister bring me up to date in regard to what has happened in the past six months?

The council decided to go for a larger scheme. Detailed documents are now being prepared in order to invite tenders for the larger scheme of 28 houses.

I was told that six months ago.

Perhaps the Deputy would consult the county council?

What is the Minister here for?

I am not a member of the county council. That is why I am entirely dependent on the Minister for information in regard to this matter.

I shall ask Deputy Allen to introduce the Deputy to a member of Wexford County Council.

You are all getting very arrogant over there.
