asked the Minister for Health what assistance Dublin Health Authority may give towards the cost of treatment and maintenance of a person in a private mental hospital.

A health authority has power to enter into agreements under which private mental hospitals will give in-patient treatment on behalf of the authority. This power is not used in Dublin.

A person eligible to receive institutional services under the Health Acts may, if he so desires, in lieu of acceping services made available by the health authority, make his own arrangements for services in certain approved mental hospitals. In such cases the health authority's liability is limited to a contribution in respect of the services made available. The amount of the contribution is set out in a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated in the Official Report.
